After completing this activity participants will be able to:
- Use a patient-centered, motivational interviewing approach to establish rapport with a knowledgeable patient who has an obesity diagnosis, focus the patient interview to identify patient barriers to weight loss, evoke patient understanding of stressful factors in their lives and awareness of stress-related eating and drinking, identify patient strengths in past health changes, and work with the patient to develop a weight-loss goal, individualized weight-loss plan, and a plan for stress management as an alternative to using food as a coping mechanism
- Refer patients for high-intensity behavioral support or counseling
